God saw the road was getting rough
The hills were hard to climb
He whispered unto thee and said
Sonny “Come on home”
Roosevelt “Sonny” Vines, Jr. went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 28, 2006. He was the oldest child born March 13, 1936 to Geneva and Roosevelt Vines Sr. Sonny graduated from Aracoma High in Logan County, West Virginia. After graduation he joined the United States Navy. Upon military completion he relocated to Huntington, West Virginia. He was employed for 23 years at Owens Illinois and later retired from Huntington Water Works. Sonny was a faithful and dedicated member of Young Chapel A.M.E. Church where he held various official positions. Past member of the Revelers Social Club, Marshall University Black Legends, Alexander Freeman Lodge #2 Free and Accepted Masons, a member of My Brothers Keeper and other community outreach programs. Survivors include his wife of 38 years Olivia Vines, four daughters Sheila V. Simpson of Tennessee, Stacy Vines of Huntington, Anna M. Carter of Columbus, Ohio, Dovanetta Deering Parker (John) of Cincinnati, Ohio. Two sons; Stanly Vines of Maryland and Franklin Deering of Huntington. One sister Joyce Burnett (Jesse) of Columbus, Ohio. Three brothers, Ronald of Williamson, WV, Tyrone and Lorenzo of Columbus, Ohio. There are eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he dearly loved. And a God Daughter, Jasmine Johnson that he loved as a daughter.
The family extends a special thank you to Barbara Saunders, Tywanna Deering and Amber Marcum for their help and devoted, unselfish service.

I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Sonny will certainly be missed. I pray that God brings you solice and comforts your grieving hearts. Dovie, Frankie and Tywanna, you and the family are in my prayers and thoughts.

To the Vines's & Deering Family
May God comfort you in your lost, Mr. Sonny always on the A.D. Lewis Football Field/ Scott's Community Center, placing enless hours supporting children to do the right thing. I will never forget him. (Baby Girl Stacy)
