Ada Charlotte "Bitsy" Boggs Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1930 - 2007

ADA CHARLOTTE "BITSY" BOGGS was called home to be with her Heavenly Father on April 22, 2007. Often known by her middle name, Charlotte, she was born in Huntington, W.Va., on January 6, 1930, to the late Kemper and Elise Wheeler. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Nicholas James Boggs. Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. She is like the merchants'ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengthened her arms. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates. Proverbs 31:10-31 KJV Charlotte was a devoted wife and mother and put all of her energy into caring for her family. She loved being a wife and mother and could be depended on to help her family in any way she could. When she was raising her family, she would always rise early to make sure that her husband and children were cared for. The role that gave her great joy was that of being a grandmother. She took pride in caring for her grandson until she was unable because of a stroke. She was always encouraging and her quick wit and impeccable sense of humor could make a person laugh in just about any situation. She also enjoyed gardening and caring for her yard, especially her rosebushes. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized and became a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. When she married, she moved her membership to First Baptist Church. She attended McKinney School and Douglass High School. She leaves to cherish her loving memories, her husband Nicholas James Boggs; son James T. "Butch" Boggs and daughter-in-law Susan; daughter Greta Jackson; and grandson, Nicholas Samuel Jackson. She is also survived by three sisters, Betty Mae (Charles) Smith, Mary Jane Pass and Lois Clarence) Brown. Other survivors include a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, and special friends Lois Jean Speaks, Daphne Whitman and Rosa Dodson; and special cousin, Barbara Jean Hartsoe. In addition to her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by her son Ernest, who died at birth; brother Hiram "Biffy" Wheeler; and sisters Ernestine Wheeler, Margaret Moore, Clara Wheeler and Janet Studamire; and son-in-law Jonathan Jackson. All who knew Charlotte will sadly miss her because she touched so many lives with her sense of humor and caring spirit. / have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. 2 timothy 4:7 (KJV). Services will 1:00PM Thursday, April 26, 2007 at First Baptist Church with the Reverend Paul F. Willis. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00Am till the time of the service at the church.

We are truly sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs. Boggs. Our prayers are with you during this time of bereavement. We would like to share these words from a poem that was shared with us, "Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again."
