O, death, Where is thy sting? O grave where is thy victory? Thanks are given to the Lord Jesus Christ on this day for the life of Mildred Virginia Washington and her victory over death and the grave, 1st Corinthians 16:55-57.
Mildred Virginia Cunningham Washington was born August 10, 1923 in Clifton Forge, Virginia. She was one of thirteen born to the union of the late Alfred Cunningham and Roberta Cunningham.
She was educated in the Public School System in Alleghany County, VA. Mildred devoted her life to Christ and was Baptized as a young woman. She knew that with God all things are possible.
Before moving to West Virginia, she worked for the Chief of Police for several years. Also for a period of time she was a First Lady and served in many capacities of the church. She had a love for all people. This was expressed well in her career as she worked many many years for Cabell County Community Service Organization taking care of clients.
On September 10, 2007 Mildred was called to join her parents and other loved one who preceded her in death. Mildred was a survivor, as she enjoyed life with family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memories three sisters, Mary Ann Rogers, Orange, Massachusetts, Eve Jeter, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and her beloved twin Alice Barclay, Bronx, NY, eight children; 7 sons, Porter Washington, Jr., Lorenzo Washington, George Washington, all of Huntington, WV. Steve Washington, Wilmington, NC, Timothy Washington, Charleston, WV, David Washington and Joseph Washington both of Huntington, WV, and one daughter, Elizabeth Washington, Charleston, WV, 4 step-children, Cathy, Rodney, Russell and Melvin Cochran. 19 Grandchildren, 23 Great-Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 1:00PM Saturday, September 15 at Full Gospel Assembly, with Pastor Samuel Moore, officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 12:00noon until the time of the service at the church.
