1948 - 2008

On March 28, 1948 Leroy Duvall Walker was born in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. A son of the late David and Caroline Brandon Walker, Sr. At an early age Leroy moved with his family to Huntington, West Virginia where he attended the public schools of Cabell County, Graduating from Huntington High School in the class of 1966. After graduation he attended Marshall University for two years until he decided the US Navy was the place for him. He joined the US Navy in 1969. During the year of 1987 Elaine White found an officer and Gentleman named Leroy Walker. In the year of 1993 the two united in marriage. Leroy enjoyed 23 exceptional years in the Navy until his retirement. Afterwards he went back to college and earned a degree in accounting from Norfolk State University. He worked in the accounting field until his health no longer permitted. Leroy later moved back to Huntington and became a member of Full Gospel Assembly. He was a man that made a lasting impact on all who knew him and although he is gone we each have a special memory of him that will help us all through these trying times. On Wednesday, February 6, 2008 from the Huntington Hospice House Leroy left this land of the living, got underway and departed for lands unknown to be with our Lord and Savior. During this transition he joined his parents, David Walker, Sr., Caroline and Manuel Richmond who preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife Elaine Walker, daughters, Linda Walker Lee of Norfolk, VA, Carla Banks of Philadelphia, PA and Shawn (Steve) Barber of Harrisburg, PA. Four sisters; Jeanette Dabney of Chesapeake, VA, Gail Walker of Norfolk, VA, Dora Iwotor of Norfolk, VA and Pam Richmond of Huntington, WV. Four brothers; John (Margaret Ann) Walker of Huntington, WV, James Richmond of Huntington, WV, David (Sandra) Walker of San Diego, CA and Paul (Ernestine) Richmond of Huntington, WV. A very special sister and brother in law Delores and Daniel McLaurin of Houston, TX. Four grandchildren; Xavius, Ashley, Brittany and Brandon. One great grandson Jayden. Many nieces, nephews, step grandchildren and a host of cousins and very close family friends old and new and one uncle Chester Brandon of White Sulpher Springs, WV. Services will be 12:00Noon Thursday, February 14, 2008 at Full Gospel Assembly Church with Pastor samuel Moore, officiating. Emtombment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00AM until the time of the service at the church. The family will recieve friends after 11:00AM.

To my Leroy,

Because of you I have been places I would not have gone and seen things I would not have seen. I have truly blessed to have someone and been loved by someone unconditionally. Thanks for the Adventure!!!

Leroy was 1 of 13 of us who went to supply school in Newport, Rhode Island in 1969. 13 of us went to NSD Subic together where we were all the best of friends. When his Dad passed, I drove him to the plane to return home. I just started looking for the 13 of us for a reunion when I came on this notice..I have found 7. I wish to pass our sincerest condolences to his family and when we get together we will celebrate our friendship with him. I have some pictures from that time and would be happy to email them if I am contacted. Sincerest condolences.

I met Leroy for the first time in November 1970 when I entered the Navy and the beginning of a lasting friendship. I regreat that I wasn't there for his homegoing and I will truely miss him. We constantly stayed in touch through the years of his comissioning as a Warrant Officer onboard the Saratoga that I throught he rightly deserved after the countless hours he labored as a storekepper and his retirement ceremony in Norfolk and I was in attendance for both. No matter when Leroy called, he knew he could count on me. My sincere condolences goes to "E" and may God Bless you in all of your endeavors for you know that Leroy is smiling down upon us. We can all imagine how Leroy acted when he met Peter at the gate.....He just walked past him and snickered. Of course Leroy eventually walked back and conducted business as usual.May God bless all of you and a special blessing to David whom I haven't seen in ages.
