1951 - 2012

Evelyn SchwengEvelyn Clarice (Elliott) Schweng, 61, passed away peacefully at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont on October 6, 2012, after a courageous, two-year battle against cancer. A private memorial service has already been held. Evelyn was born in Bethesda, MD, on January 31, 1951, the daughter of Arzie Elvin and Irene (Cantrell) Elliott. She graduated from Texas Womans University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science in nursing and worked as a public health nurse for over twenty years, retiring from the Texas Department of Health in 2009. Evelyn was a lifetime member of Eastern Star and enjoyed her membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution, an activity shared with her daughter and granddaughters. She was active in the American Cancer Society, and she was a graduate of the Citizens on Patrol Academy. She was an avid reader and an enthusiastic bridge player. Evelyn loved the seashore, especially Crystal Beach, and she enjoyed fishing and crabbing. She adored her two granddaughters and loved shopping for them. She is survived by her husband, Billy Schweng, her daughter and son-in-law Kathryn Irene and Alex Newton, her two granddaughters Sophia and Evelyn Evie Newton, by her mother, Irene Tingley of Wright City, Oklahoma, two sisters, and a host of nieces and nephews. Evelyn was a generous, caring person who was quick to offer help and sympathy to others and who will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, your local womens shelter or to another charity of your choice. Condolences can be posted at www.forestoaksofjasper.com

Adapted from "Gone From My Sight" by Henry Van Dyke: And just at the moment when someone at my side says, There she goes! , there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout : Here she comes!

Our thoughts and prayers are with you guys as Evelyn's homegoing is a loss for all of us. She was a dedicated nurse who was respected by her colleagues as she always put the patient first and was a advocate for them. She was a joy to work with as she was always willing to help out and she loved to talk about Kathryn and Billy, the loves of her life. She was a dear friend and I will be forever blessed by our friendship.
