Robert C. Pace   Jr.Robert C. Pace Jr., 88 of Jasper, died at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital on Saturday November 3, 2012. Robert was born on September 21, 1924, in Jasper, to R.C. & Viva Linscomb Pace. Robert was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army in the Pacific theater. He was a member of DeWitt Clinton Masonic Lodge #29 AF&AM for 60 years, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of El Mina Shrine. He was a 48 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, chapter number 291 and also a charter member of the VFW post 6380. Robert married Janie Martindale Pace on May 22, 1948, in Jasper, where they made their home and raised seven children. Robert owned and operated Pace Trucking before being elected as and holding the office of Jasper County Tax Assessor & Collector for 28 years. Robert retired to cattle ranching and piddling. Robert is survived by his wife of 64 years Janie M. Pace, children Carol Pace of Dallas, Connie Wester and husband Michael of Carthage, Cindy Barmore of Galveston, Jo Thomas and husband Mike of Woodville, Jane Walthall and husband Tim of Lumberton, Frank Pace and wife Joan of Jasper, John Pace of Jasper, 13 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren, four cows and Mae Mae the horse. He is also survived by sisters Aileen Pace Nunnally, Katherine Pace Baldwin, brother Jimmy Pace and wife Jean, life time best friend Gene Cannon, caregivers Kerwin Attaway, Patricia Bryant, Margaret Burns and many many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Pace Mallet and brother Hardy A. Pace. The family will host a visitation on Monday November 5, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral services are Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Jasper, with a brief reception to follow in the Wesley Center. A private masonic graveside service will be held at Little Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org, The First United Methodist Church of Jasper or Gideons International. Funeral services provided by Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Crematory in Jasper, TX. Condolences can be posted at www.forestoaksofjasper.com

Our hearts are heavy for all of you. We've known Robert all our lives-the JHS class of 1943 has lost one of its own. He set an example for his family and each of us. "To know Robert, was to love him!"

We are so very sorry for your loss. Although we did not know Robert, we know and love Jane and her children. Through our friendship with Jane, we know he was a wonderful man; he had to be to have a daughter like Jane! Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.
