1936 - 2024

Wilma Lee SmithWilma Lee Cox Smith, 87, of Barboursville, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2024. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Pastor Steve Hinkle and Pastor Monty Foster. Burial will follow in Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar. She was born July 3, 1936, in Cabell County, a daughter of the late William “Nick” and Vada McComas Cox. Wilma was also preceded in death by her husband, Elsworth “Boogie” Smith and by one brother Ronald Cox. She was a 1954 graduate of Barboursville High School, where she won several awards in music and was a member of the All-State Band. In 1974, she joined Mary Kay Cosmetics and retired after 47 years, 19 of which she was a Sales Director. Mary Kay was a career that was perfect for her as it opened so many doors, allowing her to travel all over the U.S. including working with her team in Hawaii. Wilma met so many beautiful women and hopefully changed a lot of lives for the better. Sales helped Wilma to dream, set goals, and most of all, to help send all three of her sons to college. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, E. Allen and Kimberly D. Smith, Randall Reid-Smith, all of Barboursville, and David E. and Karen A. Smith of Fairmont, WV; five granddaughters, Heather and Kenneth Glover, Trina G. Smith, Kayla and Zack Lantz, Shannon Smith and Lauren Smith; three great-grandchildren, Kayley Glover, Reese Lantz and Mac Lantz; brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Linda Cox; many special friends, including Jennie Moore, who was like a sister, and the entire Staff of The Village at Riverview, who we especially thank for their loving care and support for the last seven years for Wilma and Boogie. She was very blessed with her journey through life, and wanted and hoped to be remembered as one who loved people, loved to pass out hugs and kisses, and leave people laughing. God is so good. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. Memorial contributions may be made to Barboursville Baptist Church, P.O. Box 291, Barboursville, WV 25504. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/wallace.

I'm so glad I could attend Aunt Wilma's visitation and funeral. It was a real celebration of her life and the joy she brought others. Allen, Randy, and David--my heart goes out to you. Know that you did her proud in life and in celebration of hers.

I didn’t have to grow up with Aunt Wilma to know she was an angel on earth. The smile and warmth she radiated was all it took. She certainly knew what the meaning of life is. Live it to the fullest every day, love thoroughly , never judge , laugh and smile . The conversations we have had throughout the years have meant more to me than you all will ever know. She was so proud of her family and she let me know that my family and I were part of that. I will miss you Aunt Wilma for your love and wisdom and especially for all the giggles and laughs we have had and not being afraid to let your humor and silliness shine where ever you were. God bless and my condolences to you all. Heaven is the happiest place. ! Humor and silliness and not being afraid to show it is a true gift.

My dearest Wilma Lee, the most wonderful surrogate mother a man could ask for. She, and her children opened their homes to me without hesitation, and made me one of their own. I shall always treasure and honor her memory. Gus

I had the good fortune to meet Wilma in 1960 whenever I became part of the family. From the beginning, she welcomed me with open arms, and we had a good rapport. That was many years ago; and from time-to-time, we maintained a relationship via telephone. Thanksgiving two years ago, my daughter Karen and I had the best visit with her. I ask her was I still one of her favorite sisters-in-law and we shared fun things that day. We took photos and enjoyed our time with her. My daughter, Karen has maintained a wonderful relationship with her and is grieved about the loss of her favorite Aunt Wilma. Wilma will be missed because she made an impression in any situation because of her positive attitude! Also, she was so very proud of her sons who did well. I attribute that to Wilma because of her love and care of the boys through the years. My condolence to Allen, Randy and David
