Cheryl Cheryl "Darlene" Himes Humphreys, 69, of Barboursville, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 14, 2024. Darlene was born August 30, 1954, to the late Edward and Julia Himes in Waverly, TN. She grew up in Humphreys County, TN, with many cousins and other members of her extended family and graduated from Waverly Central High School. While in the Air Force, she then graduated from the University of California, Riverside with a degree in Business Administration in 1987 after attending Wright State University from 1983-1985. She retired from the USAF Air National Guard as MSGT with a total of 20 years of service after having served on active duty in the USAF and then in the USAF Reserves. In West Virginia, she worked as President of C & D Management, Inc. until her death. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Edward and Julia Himes as well as her sister Connie Ruth Himes Hyer.

Darlene married David Humphreys on June 28, 1980, with whom she lived for almost 44 years. She was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother "Nainy" of her three wonderful grandchildren, aunt, and friend. She enjoyed her family and friends, especially time at Cave Run Lake in Kentucky. She was able to enjoy recent visits from family and friends from Tennessee, Kentucky and Chicago, Illinois. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Darlene is survived by her husband David Humphreys; beloved sons, David Jr. (Misty and their daughter Julia) of Mt. Juliet, TN, and Jonathan (and his daughter Annalise and son Noah) of Barboursville, WV; sister Patsy Davidson (Lavelle) of Paris, TN; brother-in-law Ted Hyer of McMinnville, TN, niece Kim Peebles (Sam) of Nashville, TN; nephews Jon Davidson (Mandy) of Paris, TN, and Joshua Hyer (Venessa) of McMinnville, TN; and a host of great-nieces and nephews, as well as many other family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2024 at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, with the Rev. Dr. Gary Patton and the Rev. Dr. Jeff Garrett presiding. Interment will follow at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar, WV with full military honors. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. Pallbearers will be Lavell Davidson, Joshua Hyer, Sam Peebles, Adam Peebles, Jordan Hyer and Jon Davidson. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Crump, David Waskevich, Bill Humphreys, Adam Humphreys, Jonathan Humphreys, David Humphreys Jr., Donald Jordan, Jimmy Jowers, Retha Jowers, Ted Hyer, Hannah Given, and grandchildren Julia, Analise and Noah. A Celebration of Life will be conducted in middle Tennessee at a later date.

The family strongly encourage donations in lieu of flowers to: Insight for Living Ministries/Chuck Swindol, P.O. Box 464, Huntington, WV, 25709; Harmony House/Cabell-Huntington Coalition for the Homeless, Huntington, WV; or a charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank the many staff and doctors of St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington Internal Medicine Group, University of Kentucky Medical Center, St. Mary’s Home Health, and Hospice of Huntington for the highest quality of care. We also thank the many family, friends and neighbors for their prayers, concern, willingness to help, and especially Hannah Given for her sensitive care for Darlene in these last weeks.
