Mary Jo Morrison Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1966 - 2024

Mary Jo MorrisonMary Jo Morrison, beloved wife, daughter, sister, and friend left this world Wednesday May 8th, 2024. She is preceded in death by her father, Robert Joseph Rohde and her grandmother, Mary Adamski. Mary Jo is survived by her husband and love of her life, Scott Morrison, mother Joan Rohde, sisters Kathy Clay, Joanne Staton and husband Matt, mother and father-in-law Bill and Linda Morrison, brother and sister-in-law, Donal and MaryBeth Freeman, nephews and niece, Evan and Carter Clay, Robbie and Jillian Freeman, very special friend, Shari Roy and daughter Kayla Slone, Godchild Boston Adkins, and special family Richard and Marlene Setter. Mary Jo also leaves behind many “Cougar Cubs” that she loved and cherished. Mary Jo was the office manager for Pro-Eyes Optometry and Associates of Huntington.

Mary Jo was a beacon of light, and her boisterous laugh could envelope a room instantly. She lived her life to the fullest, embracing every opportunity, whether it be donning a large, brimmed derby hat as she wagered with her grandmother and sisters on a winning horse pick, putting on a pair of pearls to watch Audrey Hepburn on the big screen with her niece, rocking to live heavy metal shows with her nephews, or making goat’s milk soap with a few monks and her best friend Shari.

The simplest pleasures in life brought Mary Jo happiness. She was an avid reader, with a multitude of books nestled upon shelves with current reads sitting anxiously on tables and nightstands awaiting to be read. To unwind from a hectic day at work, she would stop by the local bookstore, Booktenders WV in Barboursville, for a glass of wine and peruse the aisles seeking her next adventure to immerse herself.

Mary Jo loved all animals and was often referred to as the “Animal Whisperer.” She is preceded in death by Samson (German Shepherd), Snowy (German Shepherd), Gemma (Calico Cat) and Lucille (Ball Python). She leaves behind her loyal protector Baron (German Shepherd), and her loving girl Fiona (Pit Bull Terrier). She also leaves behind many fur babies that were blessed to have been loved by her including Bella her furry sister and Major her large furry nephew.

Music was an integral part of Mary Jo’s life. She attended many concerts with Scott and her nephews. While seeing the Rolling Stones was recently marked off her list, it would never compare to the joy she shared watching her husband Scott perform live with his band. She was at every performance and will forever be his greatest fan.

Mary Jo’s unconditional love and unwavering support provided comfort to those around her. She presided over many charitable events including the Huntington Motorcycle Club’s Veterans Bike Show.

Mary Jo loved gardening and took great pride in her work which she shared with everyone. It is fitting that her sacred garden is where she spent her last moments and where her beautiful spirit rose to the heavens.

Scott and Mary Jo shared a love that is so deep and real that romantic novels will never come close to depicting their love story. The seventeen years they shared together, will be the greatest love story of all time. They shared a beautiful life together filled with rock n’ roll, motorcycles, and everyday life adventures that made the mundane extraordinary.

Mary Jo’s favorite days in this life were spent on the back of one of many of Scott’s Harley Davidsons. She felt a freedom and a sense of peace that is indescribable. It was her most secure place, embarking on journeys to places unknown with the person she loved most in this world leading the way.

It is human nature to aspire to leave a footprint on this earth, to be remembered in some impactful, significant way. In other words, for our life to have had purpose while we were here. Mary Jo did so much more than leave one solidifying footprint. She in fact, left an abundance of footprints, dancing vicariously throughout her life, touching countless lives, leaving each with a piece of her self-less, kindred spirit that will outlast generations to come. Fly high sweet Mary Jo, we will love you to the end of our days, until we meet your precious soul again.

Services will be held at Wallace Funeral Home in Barboursville on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. Visitation will be from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and a celebration of her life will follow beginning at 6:30 p.m. We would like to welcome everyone who knew Mary Jo to attend and in honor of her, please wear what makes you happy, favorite band t-shirts and jeans are welcome and encouraged. It is our intent for this not to be a somber event, but an opportunity for those who knew and loved her to celebrate her beautiful life. All are welcome to attend a dinner immediately following at the Barboursville Community Center. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to One by One Animal Advocates via PayPal to onebyoneaa@gmail.com or mailed to: One by One 216 11th Ave. West Huntington, WV 25701.
