Herman Melvin Gilkerson, Jr., 73, of East Lynn, WV, went home to be with the Lord Friday, June 28, 2024. Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2024 at the Everett Adkins Cemetery by Pastor David Adkins and Rev. Jimmy Lester. He was born July 8, 1950 in Huntington, WV, a son of the late Herman Melvin Gilkerson Sr. and Dorothy Gilkerson. He was a United States Marine Corps Veteran and an avid fishermen. He was preceded in death by his wife Gaye Lilly Gilkerson; siblings and their spouses, Joyce and Donald Russell, Janice Russell, Michael and Debbie Gilkerson, and Clyde Ross. He is survived by one son, Brian Melvin Gilkerson of Wayne; two daughters and son-in-law, Christina Gillam of East Lynn, WV and Susan and James Perry of Wayne; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mabel and Tom Hawkins of Hilliard, OH, Kay Ross of Columbus, OH and Arnold Russell of East Lynn, WV; brother and sister-in-law, Homer Seth and Carla Gilkerson of Wayne, WV; grandchildren and spouses, Tyler Gillam, Peyton Perry, Brittany and Austin Richardson and Allison Gilkerson; two great-grandchildren, Cash and Kai Richardson; a host of special friends and family; and his companion and body guard “Snickers”. Today is July 5th. I am so sorry, I just found out today.Melvin and Gaye were such good friends of mine growing up.They were just the best people ever.You will be missed by so many.My prayers are with the family. Tina ,Susan, Brian. I love you.Know your in my prayers and thoughts.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences during this difficult time. My Pops and Melvin shared many good memories fishing, and despite the fact that I forever confused Melvin and Eldon, we all got a good laugh out of it. May your memories provide you comfort as you mourn the loss of this fantastic man.
