Weston better known to many as W.A. was a devoted family man who very much loved the Lord. He was born on July 29, 1924 in San Antonio, Texas to Weston and Muriel "Stidham" Covington Sr. W.A. was raised in San Antonio and attended Edison H.S. in the day and work training in the evenings. At the age of 18 he signed up for Station X, not knowing where this would lead, he and many other young men were shipped overseas to meet the demands of the war cry. He felt fortunate to be sent to England, after a year he returned to San Antonio and Uncle Sam requested hi service, he entered the Air Force. W.A. loved his family especially his mother and father, who was a city bus driver for 35 years in San Antonio. His mother took in washing to pay for his music lessons and made sure he practiced daily. Dorothy Nell and W.A. were very close and went every where together, they tap danced in the park, swam int the river when they were young. As dedicated Christians, they used their talent for the Lord, singing, and playing the piano in small Assemble of God Church in their neighborhood, until he was sent overseas. He also loved his Aunt Ruby whom he adored. W.A and Ann had no children but they fostered 2 young boys David, and Ronny Salisbury, putting them thru school. They returned to their home state, Illinois to be with family. He was a outstanding choir director, organist and pianist. Annsalee Crowder, a friend of his sister corresponded with him and soon after his return from England; they were married in 1944, by his Aunt Ruby. After the wedding they boarded a train for California. He was stationed in Ephrata Washington and Merced California. After the war they remained in California and attended Glad Tidings Bible School in San Francisco, and Southern California, Vanguard University majoring in Bible and Music, the Pipe organ was his love, he would play for hours. His talents and love of Texas took him to Houston, where he joined Raymond T. Richey, Evangelist Temple as associate and Music Director. He arranged several city wide choirs and conducted great musicals, especially at Christmas and Easter. During the 15 years in Houston, he was in demand to play the organ or piano for weddings and funerals. He also volunteered at the VA Hospital as organist. W.A. met many well know evangelist and traveled to the poor countries, Jamaica and Cuba spreading the Gospel. His main instruments ere accordion and portable Hammond Organ. As he would walk the paths playing the accordion, the natives 3would come out of their huts and join him. In 1966 he joined the Billy Graham Crusade, promoting films in theaters in the state of Illinois. In these crusades, he led many people to the Lord. What a thrill that must have been. He was asked to join an Electronic company and we transferred to Santa Barbara CA. Again he led crusades in theaters in CA. The foster children enjoyed the life there, especially the sail boat experience on the bay. He also became a Real Estate Salesman, after several years the desire to build a sail boat was so strong, that he moved to San Diego CA and embarked in the project. He completed the 34 ft boat and enjoyed ailing the San Diego Bay, always with a dream of sailing around the world. W.A. continued Real Estate Brokerage business. While still in San Diego they traveled to England twice on the Queen Mary. He was very proud to have served in the Army Air Cor. and we visited England on the 50th anniversary of WWII victory. After retirement we wanted to travel so we sold our home and bought a motor home and traveled for 3 years. Then they moved to Kerrville, Texas where the deer and the birds are plentiful.
