William "Bill" J. Alexander, 82, a Kerrville resident, died Monday, March 8, 2010. Mr. Alexander was born June 21, 1927, the third child of Thornton & Frances Alexander of Denver, CO. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the US Navy from 1945-1946; a graduate of the University of Denver, and had a forty year award-winning career in marketing and oil/gas industrial advertising, primarily through his own firm, Alexander, Mackenzie Advertising of Dallas, Texas. His larger clients included Halliburton, Continental-Emsco and Cabot Corp for whom, among other services, he arranged national and international trade shows including the Soviet Union. He especially loved piloting his V-tail Beechcraft Bonanza on business and family trips at home and abroad. In retirement he conducted over one hundred oral history interviews of WWII veterans under the auspices of the University of North Texas.
Bill married Katherine (Kay) Hutchison of Boulder, CO on September 4, 1950 by whom he is survived after 59-years of marriage. They lived a few years in Salt Lake City, UT, and La Canada, CA, then raised their children in Dallas where they were members of Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church. He is also survived by his children, Ross Alexander and wife Suzanne of Corpus Christi, TX, Elizabeth (Betsy) Colter and husband Bert of Carrollton, TX, Molly Alexander and partner Gary Luedecke of Elgin, TX; grandchildren Alex, Colin and Emily Colter, and step-grandchildren Barrett Alexander, Capt. U.S.M.C. and Joey Miller, Jr. Also special cousins Carol Simonet, Gordon Thompson and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.
He will be missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, other family members and friends who loved him.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church (800 Jefferson St.) of Kerrville, Texas, with a Military Tribute by the VA Honor Guard on the front steps immediately followed by the service in the church sanctuary. A reception in Ryan Hall will follow the service.
