    William Clayton Henckel "Clay"

William Clayton Henckel at the age of 71 went to be with his brother on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at a San Antonio hospital. He was born on November 28, 1938 in Houston Texas to Stanley John and Florabess Dixene "Corroll" Henckel. Clay married Barbara Mae Wall on July 29, 1960 in Claremont California. He attended Houston,, Kerrville and Pomona California schools. Clay was in the U.S. Navy Reserves prior to joining the Submarine Service in 1958. Then he was on active duty aboard the USS Pomfret and the USS Bugara for 4 years. During his 23 years with the City of Kerrville he worked in the Water Department, Engineering/Construction Department, and the Street Department. Clay was in charge of the landfill operation, and was the Airport Manager. While he was the Street Department Supervisor, his crew assisted the police and fire departments with traffic control during emergencies, as well as with parades. He met with officials from city, county and state agencies to focus on various common interests. He retired from the City in 1998. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings John, Kathy, Henley, Charles, David and Fred.

Clay is survived by his wife of 49 years Barbara Henckel of Ingram Texas; son Randy Allen Henckel and wife Whitney of Kerrville, Texas; daughter Lori Ellen Slayton of Austin, Texas; grandchildren Kori Henckel Pakko and husband Joe of Edmonds, WA, Caitlyn, Jeremy and Andrew Henckel all of Kerrville, Texas, Savannah Slayton Brereton and husband Richard of Austin, Texas and Cade Slayton of Kerrville, Texas; sister Mary Freeman of Arlington Texas and many nieces, nephew and other family members and friends who love him will miss him.

Clay will be cremated and his ashes are to be scattered by his family.

Family will be hosting a celebration of life on Saturday, June 19, 2010 from 6-8 pm, at Julies Event Center, (3120 Junction Hwy. Ingram, Tx) Please come and share your favorite story with us.
