Shirley Ruth Wickline BowenShirley Ruth Wickline Bowen, 89, of Barboursville, WV, passed away Friday, November 22, 2024. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, by Pastor Brent Beckett. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. She was born January 15, 1935, and raised in Martha, a daughter of the late Wendell R. Wickline and Virginia King Wickline. She was preceded in death by her husband, Foster G. “Pete” Bowen; one brother, Wendell R. Wickline Jr.; and one sister, Dolores Moore. She is survived by her son, John W. Bowen and daughter-in-law Paula K. Bowen; two granddaughters, Karen S. Bowen and Lindsay Bowen Houston; one sister, Jennie Lou Wickline Tanner; and several nieces and nephews. She attended Martha Elementary, Barboursville Elementary, Barboursville Junior High, Barboursville High School and Marshall College. She worked for 32 years as a Math teacher with Cabell County Schools. After retiring in 1989, she volunteered at ECCHO Food and Clothing Pantry in Milton. She attended Steele Memorial United Methodist Church where she served on many committees and sang in the choir. She enjoyed working Crossword and Sudoku puzzles, but her biggest passion was helping others. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville. Aunt Shirley was perhaps the most selfless person that I have ever known. She will be missed.
