Dear Kelle and family, I remember riding the bus w/ Lars in grade school (we both lived in Bellaware subdivision) and being intimidated by his size (at the time he looked like he was 7' tall). I'm learning on facebook that he was a very kind man, wonderful husband & father. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Sorry for your loss.

To: Kelle, Derek, Carly & Erica I have been praying for Lars and all of you since I learned of his illness. I did not learn of his pasing until late Sunday afternoon when I recieved a text from Rick Bradford. I was in New York where our team defeated the Jets. When I checked my phone after the game and saw Ricks message I started to cry. Lars was a great Friend and Teammate he had a way about him that just made you feel comortable. From the 1st time you met Lars you felt like you knew him your whole life. Please accept my most heart felt condolences and know that you are all still in my toughts and prayers.

I had an enjoyable summer as a neighbor of Lars, being able to help him finish many projects on his house. He was always in good spirits, never giving up hope.He even helped me finish the trim work at the new food pantry in Paw Paw.He was hoping in the future to be involved with the pantry. We enjoyed talking about sports as we worked together. Lars, I will miss you, but your legacy will live on in Kelle and your children,in my heart and in the projects we worked on together.

To the Holter Family: Yesterday a fraternity brother from Grand Valley phoned me as the last time I spoke with Lars was about 9 years ago. I am shocked and saddened. Lars was probably the funniest and most likable guy in the Sig Ep chapter. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Tom Jerdon, Dowagiac,

Lars, my dear brother, I will miss you so very much. I loved you dearly all of your life, and I was always so very proud of you. You had charm, grace, and a lively wit. You were always a joy to be around. You lived a good life. You were a loving husband, who married his childhood sweetheart, a loving and devoted father, a loving son, and a dear brother. You worked hard and achieved a lot in your lifetime. I am so glad to have known you and I will always miss you.

I graduated from Paw Paw a year after Lars. I played on the varsity football team with him. One of my favorite memories of being in school was when we were at practices and how he used to always make myself and others laugh. I never played very much but enjoyed being there because he made it fun and he encouraged me to keep going. My mom and brother once told me that he took the time to talk to them and tell them he liked the way I played and how hard I tried. That meant alot. He was a classy guy who will be missed.

I have many fond memories of Lars, mainly high school and the following 10 years after. We spent many hours together on a variety of sports teams. Since I was a year older, he found himself being my back-up player in varsity sports we participated in together. I am sure that I still have the pictures of he and I "riding the pine" during basketball seson. The picture was taken by Wayne Falan and he would go out of his way to show it to us. He took great pleasure in explaining to us how to properly be bench sitters, "without popcorn". Lars had takent he liberty of bringing a bag from the concession stand, since he did not expect tp play that game. Over time, we became good friends playing softball as well as basketball in the Paw Paw adult leagues, enjoying a long era of winning in both sports. I regret to say that our relationship suffered as we both aged, I moved, we both married, and Lars and Kelle started building a family. He always gave a very positive spin on life and was often a comedian in our groups of friends. Entertaining, to say the least. For those of us that were fortunate enough to have spent some quality time with him, I know that he will be missed by many. Brad Hoger PPHS 1981

One of my many memories of my uncle Lars would be him driving me home from babysitting years ago when I of course& didnt have my drivers license Lars would flick his turn signal on when we would be going around a corner. I remember looking at him and saying why do you turn your turn signal on going around a corner? There is only one way to turn! He replied just to make sure everyone behind me knows. Another humorous moment was when Lars would almost regularly run out of gas. One minute he would call and say Manda ill be there in 15 minutes, and 20 minutes later he would call and say he ran out of gas a mile from his house. This meant waiting at his house for another half hour. I will never forget these memories of my uncle who I will forever miss. Your niece, Amanda Goldberg

All these years, all these memories theirs been you. I will miss our conversations. You were more than my uncle, you were my friend and I always enjoyed your "life lessons." You had a one of kind personality that I will miss dearly. Our rides in the car, sitting over at grandpa and grandmas house, family gatherings, and all the times I helped you strategize on getting things done. Specifically trying to figure out on how to get your big, heavy, expensive television out the door without dropping it. There were so many other strategies we had over the years. It was hard watching you suffer and go through the pain and I remember when I told you to keep fighting. Like Rocky Balboa always says, "It ain't about how hard you can hit. It's about hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done." I think you really fought the fight till the end but unfortunately it had to end like this. You showed me what "the true measure of a man" really is and I look to you as inspiration and a true hero in my life. It won't be long, we'll meet again. Love you and I will miss you always uncle. Your nephew, Adam Goldberg
