I only met David this year at Russ and Mara's WCRR so I did not know him real well but I can say he made an impression on me. I am sad to hear of any live steamers passing, in particular when they are so young. He will be missed by all of the Milwaukee Light Engineers who attend WCRR and know him.

Dear Hande family, I was David Technology teacher for 2 years at Bangor High School. I wanted you to know that David was one of my favorite students. I enjoyed everyday I spent with him. David taught me so much about trains, sometimes more than I could understand! David was one of my top students and I greatly appreciated him and his efforts. David would often talk about his family and his trains. I remember once when we were doing a project over units that we had covered. I told the students that they could design their own project as long as the information related to information that we had gone over. David asked if he could somehow use his train set. I told him he could and the look on his face sticks with me today. I was deeply sadden by the news about David, however my sadness can not be measured to yours.
In closing, I want you to know that David was a great kid with a huge heart. You will be in my prayers.

Dear Hande Family,
I only had the pleasure of knowing David for a short period of time, but I greatly enjoyed having him as a student. He was such a wonderful young man and we had some great conversations about his work and his trains. I'm going to miss not only talking to him about his weekends, his trains, and his work, but I'm going to miss David himself. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Dear Mrs. Hande,
I am very sorry for your loss. I will truly miss David. He was one of those students that you just knew he was going to be very successful. He was a very kind and gentle soal. I enjoyed his conversations, kindness, passion for trains, and dry sense of humor. I will never forget how impressed I was when I saw him sing in front of all of those people last year. He had become a strong, intelligent, and kind young man. I am proud of all of his accomplishments and will remember him always.
Sincerely,
Deanna McNett

To:Barb and Family,
I am one of his teachersand i have been with him for many years. This boy will always be in my heart. He was the most considerate, well mannered boy I know. I love to talked to him about his trains, before I knew it.... I and my family was invited to all the fuctions he was involved in. He was the one of the students that never got too big for one of his elementary teachers. That was truly a wonderful feeling.

Not really sure what I can possibly say other than David was great to have in the classroom. I enjoyed his sense of humor. He was a student that kept you on your toes since he didn't miss anything:) I think that I would not be able to look at a train without thinking about him.

Dear Barb,
You have our sincere sympathy in the loss of your son. The memories I have of when you and your son would come over with your Border Collie and let him romp with my dogs and how much David enjoyed talking about his dob. And most of all the day David and I spent several hours together, walking the Hartford Fair grounds and how he talked about what he was going to do when he got older. I really enjoyed that day with him and will always remember it.
May God give you the strength to
bare your loss.

My fondest memory of David would be the time at one of the annnual Freer Reunions. It was being held at Aunt Rosemary's house and a Tresure Hunt was next on the agenda. David and I were partners. Being that I was several years older then David he took charge and away we went. He rushed aorund the yard with me trailing behind. Sometimes both of us deciding where we needed to go next. We made it through the challenge to the hidden treasure. I believe a bag of candy was the treat. David was thrilled.

When I first started working for Paw Paw Schools in 2000, my very first job was working with David. I will always remember his bright smile and his love of trains. He used to talk to me quite a bit about trains. David also had a great sense of humor, and on numerous occasions he would have me laughing pretty hard. We were both pretty stubborn too, which is why I think we worked so well together. You would think it would be the opposite, but it wasn't. My prayers and thoughts are with the entire Hande family.
