John passed away Friday morning, December 11, 2009 at White Oaks in Lawton. He was born December 9, 1919 in Chicago, IL the son of the late Benjamin and Marie (Sauer) Peterson. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a life member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post # 2420. Johns hobbies were walking, golfing and playing cards. He was a maintenance supervisor for Cadillac Overall, Kalamazoo retiring in 1983. On May 24, 1941 in Muskegon, John was united in marriage to Ruth Anne Spring who he dearly missed after her passing on September 29, 2006. John was also preceded in death by a son, David, and 2 grandsons, Richard Carlsen and Todd Peterson; sister, Florence French and a brother, William Peterson. Surviving are 2 daughters, Joan L. (Kenneth) Carlsen of Paw Paw and Kathleen (Jeff) McCluskey of Columbus, OH; 3 sons, John R. Peterson, Jr. of Portage, Jed M. (Marian) Peterson of Kalamazoo and Benjamin R. (Susan) Peterson, III of Portage; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; brother, Benjamin R. (Beulah) Peterson, Jr. of Traverse City; sister, Caroline T. Lloyd of Grand Rapids; several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends Monday 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 721 Pine Street, Paw Paw, followed by services at 2 p.m. with Pastor Mark Whittaker officiating. Interment will be in Mount Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Kalamazoo with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
