Gene passed away Saturday morning, April 17, 2010 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born February 18, 1928 in Chicago IL the son of the late Roy and Catherine (Sampiller) Hall. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp as a military policeman. Gene was a graduate of Michigan State Agricultural College with a BA degree in economics. He was a supervisor for the State of Michigan Tax Commission retiring in 1991. He is a member of St. Marys Church, Paw Paw and was a member of St. Marys Church in Marshall and a member and Past President of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers, Kalamazoo. American History and politics were his passions. On June 5, 1965 in Douglas, MI, Gene was united in marriage to Joel L. Barron who survives. Also surviving are a son, Timothy (Marni) Hall of Lawton; 2 daughters, Bonnie (Richard) Bowers of Minneapolis, MN and Barbara (fiancé, Ryan Jay) Hall of Madison Heights, MI; 2 grandchildren, Matthew and Benjamin Hall; brother, James Hall of Birmingham, MI; sister, Vera (James) Wilson of Lynchburg, VA; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church, Paw Paw with Rev. Fr. Joseph Xavier officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Saugatuck. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Marys School, Paw Paw.

Joel, it was with much saddness that I read of Gene's passing. My deepest sympathy to you, Tim, Bonnie and Barb. I have many fond memories of your days here in Marshall, especially the pool party at your house. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

I saw Gene's obituary in the Marshall Ad-visor and wanted to send along my condolences. I'm so sorry for your loss. I have very fond memories of time spent at your house growing up in Marshall.
