Mr. Garland Jackson Griffis, age 70, of 218 McKibben Rd., Felton passed away Sunday, July 11, 2004. Mr. Griffis was born in Coweta County on July 22, 1933. He was the son of the late Mr. John Verner Griffis and the late Mrs. Mary Annice Hendrix Griffis. Mr. Griffis was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was a retired truck driver. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Brenda Chapman and Juanita Griffis.
Survivors include his wife, Mattie Mae McKibben Griffis of Felton; two daughters and one son-in-law, Juanita Benefield of Felton, and Becky and Ricky Weaver of Felton; one son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Lillie Griffis of Cedartown; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Gladys Boatright of Carrollton, Melba and Dell Parmer of Bowdon, and Ralph Chapman of Bowdon Junction; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at 3:00 P.M. from the Dugdown Baptist Church with Rev. Ralph Chapman and Rev. Jason Hudgens officiating. Music will be rendered by Debbie Hammond, Tina Brannon, and Joan Benefield. Interment will follow in the Polk Memory Gardens with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Eric Benefield, Nick Nichols, Larry Griffis, Max Cook, Ricky Boatright, and Jerry Rudeseal.
Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel of Buchanan is in charge of the arrangements.
