Mrs. Kate Stringfellow
Mrs. Kate C. Stringfellow, age 94 of 1536 Watts Road, Bowdon, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 11, 2005.
She was born January 26, 1911 in Ironaton, Alabama in Talladega County. She was the daughter of the late William Sidney and Rosa Anna Chastain.
In her lifetime, she was a Methodist by faith. In her young adult life she was the youth director, steward, and pianist of the Ironaton United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and taught the first, second and third grades in a one room school house. During World War II, she worked for a defense plant in Talladega. Later she was employed by Palm Beach Clothing Co. and Bachman Uxbridge Material Co. in Talladega as a reweaver until she was personally contacted by Mr. Warren P. Sewell at her home in Tallagega in September of 1963 regarding employment with Bremen-Bowdon Investment Co. as a reweaver. She accepted his offer and worked at Sewell Manufacturing in Bowdon, GA. from 1963 until she retired in 1991.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers, Bob, Leroy and Joe Chastain; sisters, Alice Pomeroy, Jean Rhodes, Frances Barkley Abernathy, Nan Chastain and Bonnie Graves; a granddaughter-in-law, Gloria Spruill; 3 nieces and 4 nephews.
Mrs. Stringfellow is survived by a daughter-in-law and son, Mickey and Terry Stringfellow of Talladega, AL. and a daughter and son-in-law, Juanita and Greene Spruill of Bowdon, GA; 8 grandchildren, Karen and Tommy Spruill of Bowdon, GA, Rhonda and Charles Spruill of Villa Rica, GA, Mona and Richard Spruill of Bremen, GA, Chrystal Boe of Atlanta, GA, Stacie and Allen Stringfellow of Talladega, AL, Lisa and Billy Stringfellow of Andelusia, AL, Holly and Bobby Stringfellow of Birmingham, AL, and Susan and Tom Stringfellow of Atlanta, GA; 16 great-grandchildren, Kelli and Lee Wright of Bowdon, GA, Brandy and Johnny Mitchell of Woodland, AL, Nikki Muse of Bowdon, GA, Cody Spruill of Woodland, AL, Connor Spruill of Villa Rica, GA, Daulton Spruill of Bremen, GA, Clair and Emily Stringfellow of Auburn, AL, Shane and Magan Stringfellow of Talladega, AL, Gracie and Fred Gilbert of Birmingham, AL, Ryan and Wren Stringfellow of Talladega, AL, Chris Stringfellow of Talladega, AL, Matthew and Abiegail Stringfellow of Atlanta, GA; 4 great-great-grandchildren, Brandon and Levi Wright of Bowdon, GA, Caden Lester of Bowdon, GA, Tyler Stringfellow of Talladega, AL; 3 nieces, 5 nephews and a very special friend, Irene Williamson of Bowdon, GA.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 14th, 2005 from 11:00 a.m until 9:00 p.m. (Georgia Time). The family will arrive at 6:00 p.m., at which time a local funeral service will be held with Rev. Gary Stewart officiating. After the service, the family will continue to receive friends until 9:00 o’clock.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 15, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. (Alabama Time) from Trinity United Methodist Church in Talladega, AL. Dr. Tom Stringfellow, Rev. Mark Williams, and Rev. Doug Hemphill will officiate. Susan Gibbs will provide the music. Interment will follow at the Pine Hill Memorial Park in Talladega, AL.
Serving as pallbearers are Mrs. Stringfellow’s grandchildren, Alan, Billy, Bobby, and Tom Stringfellow, Chuck, Richard, and Tommy Spruill, and Chrystal Boe. Honorary pallbearers are Cody Spruill, Wren and Chris Stringfellow, and Lee Wright.
In lieu of flowers contributions cam be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, 403 East Street North, Talladega, Alabama, 35161.
Rainwater Funeral Home of Bowdon, Georgia was in charge of the arrangements.
