Mr. Jasper Benjamin Smith, age 87, of 216 Carrollton St., Buchanan passed away Saturday, July 15, 2006. Mr. Smith was born in Haralson County on July 28, 1918. He was the son of the late Abraham Smith and the late Ovie Dewberry Smith. Mr. Smith was a decorated veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II and was a retired grocer. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred Hardin, Johnnie Akers and Ruth Curtis and five brothers, Floyd Smith, Roy Smith, Raymond Smith, Robert Smith and Ed Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Tinsley Smith of Buchanan; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Gail and Tom Jones of Bremen, Sonya Smith of Buchanan and Paula and Ronnie Davis of Bremen; three grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 17, 2006 at 4:00 P.M. from Hutcheson’s Memorial Chapel with Rev. George Bennett officiating. Music will be rendered by Harold McWhorter and Jill Steele. Interment will follow in the Buchanan City Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Robert Worthy, Jimmy Davis, Jr., Benjamin Jones, Britton Thomas, Roy Steele and Larry Davis.
