1941 - 2009
Sherman Ray Marcum, 67, of Vinton, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at his residence.
He was born May 12, 1941, in Logan, W.Va., son of the late Hollie and Lola Chapman Marcum.
He was a retired truck driver, former owner and operator of the Pirates Cove Restaurant of Bidwell, and attended Vinton Baptist Church.
Sherman is survived by three children, Lynn (Michael) Gaffney of Portland, Ore., Sherman (Dawn) Marcum II of Vinton, and Darin (Karen) Marcum of Portland, Ore.; 12 grandchildren, Stephanie, Justin, Jonathan, Jessica, Shawn, Jarrid, Marisa, Ashley, Brook, Brandon, Trevor and Corey; and one great-grandson, Bradley.
He is also survived by six brothers, Harold (Carolyn) Marcum of Rio Grande, Bill (Ruby) Marcum of Thurman, Ron (Shirley) Marcum of Vinton, Darrell Marcum of Vinton, Hollie (Marg) Marcum of Vinton, and David (Sandy) Marcum of Vinton; and three sisters, Mary Block of Bidwell, Sarah (Don) Israel of Vinton, and Dona Affolter of Vinton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Jimmy Marcum; one brother, Ishmael Marcum; and one sister, Imogene Marcum.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, in the Harvestime Worship Center at Vinton, with Pastor David Marcum and the Rev. Marvin Sallee officiating. Burial will follow in the Pendleton-Marcum Cemetery near Vinton. Friends may call at the Harvestime Worship Center on Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home at Vinton.
