Dr. Arnold Joseph Sattler, 79, Gallipolis, Ohio passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis, Ohio. Dr. Sattler was born January 18, 1931 in Munich, Germany. He attended school at St. Paul in Wolfsberg, Austria, a 900 year old Catholic monastery. He pursued a medical degree at the Medical University of Vienna and graduated in 1957. He took his boards and completed multiple residencies through out the United States from 1957-1962.

There he joined the Holzer Medical Plaza and practiced for over 30 years, followed by a further 9 years at Holzer Clinic. In 1992 he proudly became an American citizen. He retired in 2003 and enjoyed many wonderful trips to Austria with his loving wife, RuthAnn Sattler (Luman) (married in January 21, 2000).

Dr. Sattler is survived by his wife, RuthAnn Sattler, Gallipolis, Ohio; son, Dr. Alexander Sattler, Vienna, Austria; daughter, Tanja M. Sattler, San Francisco, CA; son Dr. Andrew C. Dear Ruth Ann, I am so sorry for your loss. John and I were with you in spirit. At this time I am living out of town and am unable to be there in person. I remember Andy and his love of good wine! He always made John and i feel welcome. That was his gift to others, the ability to make others feel warm and welcome. Know that our prayers are with you. Sandy and John

Dear Ruth Ann, I cherish the memory of our Holzer Nursing Class of 1964 Reunion we had at your home. Andy was so warm and welcoming and seemed to enjoy himself with this gang of "Old School" nurses. I know it's so hard to say Goodbye. Peace and Love, Joyce Gloeckner Badgley

I'm so sorry to hear about your father, husband passing away. As I have told Andrew, the Sattlers, especially Dr. Sattler, made a significant impact on my life. Your family's love of history, art, music, and other cultures influenced my life path. I'll forever remember him and the family for that gift. I'll be thinking of you all.
