Dr. Philip L. Edmiston, 84, Vinton, Ohio, passed away Friday May 15, 2009,in Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis. Dr. Edmiston practiced Veterinary Medicine in Gallia County and the surrounding area for forty seven years prior to his retirement in 2003.
"Doc" as he was fondly called, was born August 9, 1924, in Vinton, son of the late Clayte and Grace Casto Edmiston. He was a Vinton High School Graduate, Class of 1942; received a B.S. Degree, Ohio State University, 1951; and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Ohio State University, 1955. In addition he was a WW II Staff Sgt. Veteran, who served in Japan and the Far East; a member of the Vinton American Legion Post 161 and also the Vinton Baptist Church.
Dr. Edmiston married Ruby Ernestine Russell Edmiston March 30, 1950 in Gallipolis, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on December 2, 1995.
Surviving are two daughters and a son: Phyllis Ann (Richard) Brown, Vinton, and children, Wendy (Todd) Petrie, Brock and Avery, Marion, Ohio; Joshua Brown at home; Debbie (Dale) Grant, Vinton, and children: Misty (Ben) Blackburn, Kendra and Kelsey Vinton; Tisha and Trevor at home; Mark Pat (Cheryl) Edmiston, Dayton, Ohio; Brother, Harold (Coleen) Edmiston, Land O'Lakes, Florida; Sister, Mary Lanier, Vinton, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 19th in the Harvestime Worship Center, (which was the former Vinton Baptist Church), Main St. Vinton, with Rev. Chester Hess officiating. Burial will follow in the Vinton Memorial Park. Military Grave Side Rites will be conducted by the Vinton American Legion Post 161.
