Eva Leota Northup, 86, of Gallipolis, OH, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2009, at Holzer Senior Care, following an extended illness. She was born November 16, 1922, in Gallipolis, the daughter of the late Charles Harrison Northup and Della Eblin Northup.
Eva graduated from Gallia Academy High School in 1941, and completed coursework toward a certificate at Wittenburg University. Eva began work at the Holzer Hospital on First Avenue, Gallipolis in 1941 where she was secretary to Dr. Charles E. Holzer Sr. until his retirement. During her 40 years at Holzer Hospital and later Holzer Clinic, she functioned as Supervisor for Medical Records and Word Processing as well as trainer and supervisor of the Medical Secretaries. Following her retirement, she served as a volunteer for another 23 years in the Medical Records Department where she formed many lasting relationships including longtime friendships with Eleanor Fadeley and Dottie Crabtree.
Eva was the author of The Holzer Legacy in 1995, which chronicled her time with Dr. Charles E. Holzer Sr .In addition, she also had several pieces of poetry published. She was socially active in the English Club and served as president of the Riverside Study Group for two years. She also enjoyed the Breakfast Club at Bob Evans Restaurant with her many friends and was also a member of the Holzer Retirees.
Always steadfast in her faith in God, Eva was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Grace United Methodist Women, and the Altar Guild. Eva also attended the Church of God.
Eva was preceded in death by her sisters, Rosalie (Wade) Wooten, Eleanor (Roy) Neal, and brothers Charles, Francis, and Frederick, who died in childhood. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Eva was considered a member of their immediate family by niece Patricia Petrie, and great nieces Susan Haft and Sandra Petrie-Forgey. She was given special care by nieces Loretta Beaver, Debra Polcyn, and friend, Darlene Knapp.
The family is especially grateful for the considerate and compassionate care given by the staff of Holzer Senior Care where Eva resided during her final days.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, July 15, at Grace United Methodist Church in Gallipolis with Pastor Robert Powell and Pastor Alfred Holley officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Street Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Friends may call at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, on Tuesday evening from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Pall bearers will be nephews Michael Northup, Gerald Northup, Paul Polcyn, Steven Neal Petrie, Richard Haft, and Dwayne Forgey.
