Helen Louise Gibson, 88, of Gallipolis, Ohio, formerly of Ona, West Virginia, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at her home at Holzer Assisted Living in Gallipolis.
Helen was born December 30, 1920 to the late William and Lovena Atkinson Gibson. Also preceeding her in death were sister, Evelyn Gibson Lumbard and brother-in-law, Gerald Willis Lumbard.
Helen is survived by her great nephews and niece, Thomas (Diane) Mollohan and Daniel Mollohan, both of Gallipolis; Victoria (Adam) Betz of Hilliard; Philip (Leah) Mollohan of Pataskala and Helen Lumbard Mollohan of Gallipolis. Also surviving are many great great nephews and neices, as well as many friends who will deeply miss her but rejoice that she is now in the Lord's presence in Heaven.
She was a retired employee of Cabell Huntington Hospital where she was a pediatric unit secretary. She also was a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, and member of the Gibson Trio singing group; a West Virginia State Youth Temperance Council Secretary where she worked diligently to educate young people in regard to the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs; a member of the Milton Senior Center and the local chapter of the AARP; a member of Beulah Ann Missionary Baptist Church in Ona; and a member of Pathway Community Church of Gallipolis. She loved the Lord Jesus and constantly sought to be a Christian witness where she lived. She deeply loved her family and friends, enjoyed the company of special pets, and liked to travel across the country.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2009 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis with Pastor Thom Mollohan officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Woodmere Cemetery, Huntington, West Virginia. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
