Barbara passed away Sunday evening February 20, 2011 at the home of her son in Lawton. She was born June 2, 1920 in Three Rivers, MI to Earl G. and Louise A. (Marantette) Houghtaling. Following graduation from Three Rivers High School she was employed by the Three Rivers Commercial, a daily newspaper, as press photographer/photo engraver. Shortly after entry WWII her brothers Bob and Don enlisted in the navy. A bit later she too enlisted in the navy. As a wave she was assigned to the Still Division of the Photographic Science Laboratory at the U.S. Naval Air Station, Anacostia, D.C. It was there that she met and later married Adolf Galovan. At the conclusion of the war the Galovans established Galovan Associates Commercial Photography in Kalamazoo, MI. Following Adolfs sudden death in 1965 she sold the business and retired from all things photographic. While a postal clerk in the Lawton office she was asked to fill a vacancy in the Lawton Municipal Clerks Office. She was sworn into office the first week of January 1972 as clerk. Later she was designated to clerk/controller, the position she held until her retirement in 1988. She was preceded in death by sisters, Eileen and Ruth; brothers, Robert and Donald and son Patrick. She is survived by son Peter; brother, Lawrence (Jacquelin) Houghtaling; grandsons Brian, Mike (Angie), Tim (Alice); Great grandsons Matthew, Alex and Nolan; great granddaughter Julia, Galovans all; nieces and nephews. In accordance with her wishes there will be no visitation or services as immediate cremation has taken place. Private interment of cremains will be in Riverside Cemetery, Three Rivers, Michigan.
