Stasi (Anastasios) Michael Delvizis of Ashland, Kentucky, a much-loved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather fell asleep in the Lord on Saturday, October 24, 2020 in Franklin, Tennessee.
Born in Rochester, New York, on August 3, 1932, he is the son of the late Michael Delvizis and Olga [née Styliadis], immigrants from Florina, Greece.
He and his beloved wife, Doris, moved to Ashland, Kentucky, in 1971 where they raised their five children. He was a devoted and loving father. A graduate of Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia, earning a degree in sociology, he began an administrative career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, retiring from the Federal Correctional Institution Ashland in Summit in 1984.
He was a faithful member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Huntington, West Virginia, serving on the parish council for many years with two terms as president. Taking other leadership roles, he was instrumental in parish youth activities, Diocese camp director, advisor, and liturgical reader.
Stasi is survived by his loving wife, Doris [née Jovan], of 65 years and four sons, Michael (Rebecca) Delvizis of Nashville, TN; Thomas (Teresa) Delvizis of Lexington, Ky.; the Reverend Peter (Victoria) Delvizis of Westfield, N.J.; and James (Maria) Delvizis of San Ramon, California.
He was preceded in death by his son, John Alexander Delvizis.
He was the proud pappou of four grandchildren, Christopher (Haley) Delvizis of Austin, Texas; Kara (Andrew) Miller of Nashville, Tenn.; Michael and Alexander Delvizis of San Ramon, Califonia; and also five great-grandchildren Ella, Ava, and Michael Everett Delvizis of Austin Texas; Luke and Lucia Miller of Nashville, Tenn.. Additionally, he is survived by two sisters, Florence Dove of Radford, Va.; Diana Johnston of Spartanburg, S.C.; and by a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Angie.
Stasi's devotion to his family, friends, and faith never wavered. These were the foundation and building blocks of his life. He enjoyed gardening, was an avid reader, sports enthusiast, coach, mentor, and a tremendous dancer, mastering almost every form of traditional dance.
Visitation will be held at Steen Funeral Home, located at 1501 Central Avenue, in Ashland, KY on Friday, October 30, from 5 until 7 p.m. A Trisagion (Memorial) Service will be offered at 6 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, located at 701, 11th Avenue in Huntington, W.Va. on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Father Mark Elliott and Reverend Father Peter Delvizis officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum in Ashland, Ky.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Stasi's memory to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 701 11th Avenue, Huntington, WV 25701.
