1933 - 2019

Claude M. “Jack” Jackson, Jr., 85, of Bellefonte, died peacefully Saturday, January 12, 2019, in the comfort of his residence.

He was born August 5, 1933, in Charleston, W.Va., a son of the late Claude and Edna Jackson Sr. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ellen Jackson Graft and Carolyn Kay Jackson Keuter.

Jack was a 1952 graduate of Vinson High School in Huntington, W.Va. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and had been a Kentucky Colonel since 1963.

Jack was a life member of Poage Masonic Lodge 350 F&AM in Ashland. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies in Lake Worth, FL, and was a Charter member of Amara Shrine Temple in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. He was a member of El Hasa Shrine Temple in Ashland, Past Director of Royal Order Jesters Ct. 179 in Palm Beach, FL, and was a member of the Royal Order Jesters Ct. 172 in Ashland. He was Past President of Jesters of Florida 1993-1994. He was a member of Clarence Fields Post American Legion 76, Elks Lodge BPOE 350, and was a Life member of VFW Post 10332 in Hobe Sound, FL.

He served as President of the Town Council for the Town of Haverhill, FL for 4 years and Mayor of the Town of Haverhill for 3 years. He retired from Uniroyal Tire Company as District Manager of the Florida Division.

Jack and his wife Dixie lived in South Florida for 45 years before returning to their hometown of Ashland, in 2005.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Dixie Jordan Jackson of Bellefonte; and a host of dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel with Rev. Troy Poff officiating. Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery where Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Air Force and American Legion Kenova Post 93.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
