What a small world we live in. Sam was my Babe Ruth baseball coach way back when. I never heard from him again until I worked at Brevard Community College (BCC) in Melbourne, FL, where he was a journalism instructor. He was as surprised as I. My condolences to his family.

My sincere condolences. Sam and I were in constant contact during the years we both worked as Public Information Directors for the Cabell and Wood County Boards of Education. We drove together to a conference in Orlando one summer; another year we were in Boston. Sam's vibrant personality united any group with which he was a participant, and pleasant memories of these times remain though he has left us. I must celebrate this life, and I trust similar words from his many friends bring a smile to each of us during this time. Les Smith, San Diego, CA

I've know Sammy since 1957. He would walk home from the Dispatch late at night and when he got to my house he would whistle to see if I was on the porch. Then we would have peanut butter sandwiches and milk and talk about anything and everything. Such a great guy and he touch so many people with his humor and kindness. I am truly sorry for your loss.

To Sam's family, My sincere sympathy on the passing of dear Sam. We taught together at BCC for 10 years and developed a great friendship since we both had graduated from Marshall. He had more zest for life than a dozen people half his age and everyone loved being around him. He is now with the wonderful Herd in heaven. May the Lord comfort you in your sorrow. Sincerely, Nancy Arnett
