Fred Leonard Olsson was born December 20, 1927 in Galveston, TX and passed away on May 2, 2014 in Kerrville, TX. He is survived by Peggy An Olsson, his wife of 62 years, and sons Fred Ronald (Ron) Olsson, (wife Natalie) and Karl David Olsson. He is also survived by his sister Lourice Olsson Thompson. He is also survived by grandchildren Matthew Ronald Olsson, Veronica Lynn Olsson, Garrett Christopher Olsson, Chad Christopher Olsson, Kirk Evans Olsson (wife Christy), Karl Michael Olsson, Ryan Olsson, and Chase Olsson. He is also survived by nephew Steve (wife Nancy) Thompson and their children Dylan (Andria) Thompson and Cody Thompson, and nephew Ronald Craig (Ronnie) Thompson and son Brandon Chase Thompson. He is preceded in death by his father Sigfried (Fred) Olsson and mother Lucille Elfstrom Olsson, and stepmother Ruth Grimm Olsson and step sisters Ruth Ann Hodges and Martha Hunt. He is also preceded in death by sons Eric Leonard Olsson and Dirk Evans Olsson, and grandson Travis Christopher Olsson, and brother-in-law Rudell (Chaser) Thompson.
Fred grew up in Paducah, KY and attended Trinity Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War II in the Navy and graduated from the University of Louisville Speed Scientific School in Louisville, KY in 1954 as a mechanical engineer. He worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Akron, OH and was transferred with Peggy and newborn Ron to Java, Indonesia where they lived for 3 years and during this time Eric was born. Fred then came to work in Houston, TX. As an engineer he was transferred many places including Edmonton, Canada, Detroit, MI, Lake City, FL, Kingsport, TN, Charleston, WV, Wichita, KS, Cincinnati, OK, Jeffersonville, IN, Louisville, KY, Eldorado, KS.
Dirk and Karl were born in Houston. Fred and Peggy retired in Goliad, TX as camp hosts at Goliad State Park, and Fred was a Texas History buff and enjoyed giving lectures to the school children. After several hurricanes Fred and Peggy moved to Kerrville in 2005 and fed many cats and deer birds and enjoyed the river. Fred was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to fish, camp, hike and play golf and he gave that love of outdoors to his wife and children.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, May 7th at 10 AM at Garden of Memories Cemetery with Pastor Bockholt officiating the services.
