Francisco M. Vela Sr., 77, passed away from this life on May 16, 2014 at his home in Kerrville. He was born Sept. 04, 1936 in San Isidro, Texas to Santos and Margarito Vela. Francisco served in the US Army during the Vietnam War (1959-1961) and retired from the Kerrville State Hospital. In 1959, he married Celia Cantu in Encino, and then they moved to Kerrville the same year. Francisco loved his family and spending time hunting white tail deer in the Hill Country.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Celia J. Vela; siblings, Ray Vela and Blanca Vela Gonzales.
Francisco is survived by his loving children, Francisco Vela Jr and wife Norma, Sylvia Vela Franchett and husband Paul, Edward Vela, Hector Vela, Hilda Vela, Noelda Vela and husband Alex; grandchildren, Monica Ochoa, Jonathon Ochoa, Valisica Lopez, Rick Vela, Nadia Hernandez and Fabian Hernandez; great grandchildren, Jade Ochoa, Natalee Ochoa and Avery Garcia; sister Carmen Elizondo.
Memorial service will be pm, Saturday, May 24,2014 at San Isidro Catholic Church with interment to follow at the San Isidro Cemetery.
