Dorothy Jean Wheat, 87, of Kilgore, passed away August 4, 2014 in a Kerrville, TX nursing facility. A memorial service is scheduled at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 14, 2014, at First Baptist Church, Liberty City, TX, led by Brother Bruce Wells. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
Dorothy was born April 15, 1927, in Roswell, New Mexico, to Mary Martha Trolinger Roberts and Edwin Thomas Roberts. She was the youngest in a combined family of 17 children.
She is survived by her loving husband, Harold Wheat, a sister, Martha Sherrick of Fort Worth, Texas; a son, Michael Roberts Bush of Roswell, N.M.; two daughters, Patricia Jo Hodges of Kerrville, TX, and JerryAnn Moffat of Palatine, Ill. Grandchildren are Jessica Melendez, Heath Hodges, Sean Hodges, Timothy Watts, Jenny Foster, Annamieke Hoff Lemus, Jonathon Bush, William Wheat and Britlan Hoff. Dorothy was blessed with 11 great grandchildren.
Dorothy was predeceased in death by her stepson, Larry Wheat, and most of her brothers and sisters.
She attended community college, did secretarial work, was in real estate for several years, and was part owner in a building supply company.
Dorothy had a strong Christian faith that she shared with her children and grandchildren. She and Harold were active members of First Baptist Church, Liberty City, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be missed.
